So naturally, most guides you’ll find still say “early October 2026.” But Seoul’s own official festival calendar lists the 2026 edition under September, and Saturday, September 5 is the date circulating — a full month earlier than usual.

What’s certain and what isn’t:

• Certain: the festival is happening, at Yeouido Hangang Park, hosted by Hanwha (as every year since 2000), free to attend.
• Very likely: early September rather than the traditional October slot, per Seoul’s calendar.
• Now official. Hanwha confirmed the date on 6 August 2026: Saturday, September 5, across Yeouido Hangang Park. Three national teams are performing — Korea (Hanwha), the United States and the United Kingdom.

One change that matters if you were planning to sit on Nodeul Island: the whole island is now a paid viewing area, the Orange Play Zone, rather than the free overflow spot it used to be. The free-and-huge option is still the Yeouido park itself; the ranked spots below assume that.

The honest trade-off: the west grass is the show; everywhere else is a view. If it’s your once-in-a-lifetime visit, do the grass properly — mat, snacks, arrive by 3pm, make an afternoon of it (there are daytime events from early afternoon). If crowds genuinely stress you, Ichon or Namsan will still give you a night you’ll talk about.

The survival details nobody puts in the pretty posts

• The subway after is the real event. Yeouido and Yeouinaru stations hit crush capacity the moment the finale ends. Either leave ~10 minutes early, or do what locals do: stay put, picnic another hour, let the wave pass. Extra trains typically run, but “extra” and “comfortable” are different words.
• Your phone will struggle. A million phones in one park means data slows to a crawl right when you need your map. Download offline maps beforehand and make sure you have real mobile data rather than counting on park WiFi.
• Toilets and convenience stores run long lines from late afternoon — handle both before 5pm.

The fireworks start around 7pm and run to about 9, but Yeouido is a destination all afternoon — food trucks, busking stages, and the rare sight of the entire city gathering on grass by a river. Pair the morning with a palace or a free-Seoul itinerary, then migrate to the river.
