I priced this trip both ways on July 19, 2026 — the DIY route down to the last won using current fares and Nami Island’s official price page, and the tours live on Booking.com the same day. Most English guides still quote the ₩13,000 entrance fee “as of June 2020.” It’s ₩19,000 now. Let’s work with numbers from this decade.

Match this wrong and it costs real money or a real afternoon: DIY the multi-stop day and you’ll pay about the same ~$48 in tickets and transport as the tour, then lose hours to the Gapyeong bus’s two-hour headways; book a $50–62 combo tour for Nami alone and you’ve paid double for a half-day the train does for $12–24.

The DIY route, priced in won (2026, verified)

The one fact that makes DIY viable: Nami Island’s ₩19,000 admission already includes the round-trip ferry (confirmed on the official price page today — Regular ₩19,000, students and 70+ ₩16,000, young kids ₩13,000, or ₩29,000 if you want to arrive by motorboat instead of ferry). You are not buying a boat ticket on top.

Route B — the cheapskate special (Gyeongchun subway line): the all-stops commuter train from Sangbong (or via Yongsan) reaches Gapyeong for roughly ₩2,400–2,500 each way — it just takes 80–95 minutes instead of 40. Walk from the station, and buy your admission discounted: resellers like Klook have listed the ferry-inclusive ticket around $8.75 (per iVisitKorea’s 2026 comparison — verify the current price before you buy), and a 2026 visitor on r/koreatravel reported a QR code next to the ticket booth itself that gives a discount on site. Total: ~₩17,000, about $12, for the same island everyone else is on.

Two booking notes from experience: ITX seats sell out on weekends — reserve on the Korail Talk app (standing tickets exist if you’re late), and ITX is a separate ticket, so your T-money subway card fare doesn’t transfer.

What the tours actually cost (checked live, July 19, 2026)

These are live Booking.com prices pulled today, in USD per adult. Snapshot, not a promise — but the tier is what matters:

One warning that applies to every Nami tour on every platform: admission fees are included on some listings and not others. Read the “what’s included” section before comparing prices — a $50 tour that excludes ₩46,000 of entry tickets is not a $50 tour.

Now, here’s the reversal most guides miss. Try to DIY the combo day yourself: Nami admission ₩19,000 + Petite France ₩16,000 (current VisitKorea listing) + Garden of Morning Calm ₩11,000 (official site) = ₩46,000 in tickets alone, plus roughly ₩20,000 in trains and the ₩8,000 Gapyeong City Tour Bus day pass to hop between them. That’s ~₩66,000, about $48 — essentially the same money as the $50.48 tour — except the city tour bus runs on roughly two-hour headways. Miss one connection and your itinerary collapses. For multi-stop days, the tour bus with a fixed schedule is genuinely the rational buy, not the lazy one.

The honest paragraph (what tour reviews won’t tell you)

Reddit’s r/koreatravel is split on Nami in a way glossy guides aren’t. u/dilberry, who took a tour: “They will direct you into a tourist trap restaurant that will only serve you if you pay for 2 people… Once you get on the island, it’s pretty much ‘be back here by 1 pm’.” (Another user, u/jksmam, pushed back that their similar tour had no forced stops — it varies by operator.) The harsher takes exist too — “nami is a waste of time imho… it’s just a big glamping ground” (u/Niko_47x) — against first-timers like u/Different_Dot_5762: “For first timers I think Nami island is def worth it.”

And this is DIY’s hidden weapon, beyond money: you own the clock. u/Holiday-Abrocoma2859 took the train with a friend: “We were there early like 9/10 am, not many people were there — the groups came when we left 2 hours later.” Tours physically cannot give you that; their buses are the 11 AM crowd. Go DIY, catch an early ferry (the first boat runs somewhere between 07:30 and 08:00 depending on season — confirm on site; the official price page even lists a cheaper ₩13,000 early-bird admission for pre-8 AM arrivals), and you’ll have the famous tree lanes nearly to yourself.

Wait — why is this island famous at all?

If Nami doesn’t grab you — or you want to pair it with something better

Be honest with yourself: plenty of travelers find Nami pretty but slight — “a nice walk and some trees” — and half a day is plenty. If that’s you, here’s what’s on the exact same Gapyeong day-trip circuit, so you’re not building a whole day around one island:

• The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) — a genuinely beautiful arboretum, and the single best add-on in autumn (foliage) or winter (the Lighting Festival). Adult entry ~₩11,000. Many people who shrug at Nami love this one.
• Alpaca World (알파카월드) — the family/kid favorite that Reddit brings up constantly; you walk a hillside trail feeding alpacas and deer. Pairs with Nami on combo tours.
• Gangchon Rail Bike (강촌 레일바이크) — pedal an old railway line along the river; more doing than strolling, which is exactly the complaint people have about Nami.

If you’re going in autumn or winter, pick the Garden of Morning Calm every time — fall foliage and the winter Lighting Festival make it the standout, and it’s the more substantial stop year-round. Pick Petite France only if you specifically want the pastel “Little Prince” photo backdrops and you’re comfortable with a small, quick village. In spring/summer with no strong preference, Morning Calm still gives you more for the ₩11,000 than Petite France’s ₩16,000.
